As our current campus will be rebuilt for a brand new start, I would like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts and express my feelings for my beloved campus.
Wa Ying gives me precious, and truly priceless memories. I still remember the day when I first stepped onto the campus, I was struck by the 'enormous' campus as in comparison, my primary school was as cramped as it may be. Looking at the large campus, I told myself that I would have an amazing school life here.
I met new schoolmates, and participated in various school activities, with String Orchestra being the first school team I joined. Every time I wear my uniform and walk to school, I would be proud of being a part of the college.
The campus plays a significant role in different activities. However, I cannot believe that just three years after my first entry into this wonderful school, I will be saying farewell to the campus soon.
The school did an amazing job in welcoming new students and helped me to meet new friends, participate in school-based activities, and become a more mature person.
On the first day, I met my new class in this new chapter of life, I was unsure whether I would fit in here, as back then, I was not a particularly outgoing person. However, I mustered up my courage and first participated in the school's String Orchestra — and I have successfully taken the first step out of my comfort zone to widen my social circle.
I have been a member of the String Orchestra since 2018, and I have also joined the Prefects’ Board and the Heritage Team in 2020. I participated in as many of these activities as I could. Besides meeting more like-minded buddies and learning how to maintain lasting friendships through the multiple opportunities I cooperated with others to organise events for schoolmates, I have, unexpectedly, gained a better understanding of this campus as well.
Have you ever been to the rooftop of our school? It has always been a 'mysterious' place as students are not usually permitted to go there. However, I had a wonderful chance to visit there due to a project of the Heritage Team — flying a drone to capture the gorgeous sceneries of our campus. It was the first time I had ever stepped into this secret place. I will never forget how excited I was for this 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity! It was stunning to see the campus from a birds-eye view, and after this filming experience, I could not wait to explore more places on our campus.
I am so grateful that my friends and Wa Ying teachers have given me so much inspiration to learn on this campus every day. This campus has witnessed my growth over all these years.
Wa Ying College, and especially this campus, has played a truly important role in my wonderful journey as a student. It truly is a place where we grow up, learn and mature. I am always impressed to see how Wa Ying was established in Ho Man Tin in the 70s, and has nurtured so many generations of students since then. This year marks the 50th anniversary of our beloved school, and this iconic campus has been with us for the past 50 years. Though small, it holds the incredible memories of different generations of Wayingers. It will be succeeded by a better, larger campus in the coming future, which will provide us with a better environment for learning and exploration. However, at the same time, I trust this iconic campus will always stay in our hearts.
This is a day for celebration, and also the day to say farewell to this campus. Though in tears, we will still wear a smile as we look back to our beloved campus. Lights out.
